Naturally Dyed Woven Scarf

Concept:

Everyday we are blessed with a sunrise and a sunset.  I've always found the rising and setting of the suns colors to be beautiful.  I find when the light of the sunset hits the surface of water to be almost magical.  The movement of the color as it rests on the surface rippling with the wind is mesmerizing.  For this piece I have decided to weave a scarf that I naturally dyed with madder root, onion skins, and brazilwood to emulate this image.  I created a wave like twill structure and dyed my wool yarns in a fading gradation of warm pink, orange, and yellow tones.  I then screen printed over my fabric with a ripple motif using cream of tar tar as my mordant.
